Pimpri, 16 April 2021: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday (April 15) decided to provide Rs 3,000 each to the economically weaker sections of the city as emergency financial assistance. The decision will benefit 40,000 people in the city at a cost of about Rs 15 crore. The assistance amount will be credited to the bank account of the concerned beneficiary.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the standing committee on Thursday. Accordingly, the assistance will be given to licensed autorickshaw drivers, street vendors, registered domestic workers, tanners, barbers, school transport bus drivers, gymnasium trainers etc.

Mayor Mai Dhore said in a press conference that the state government has imposed a lockdown, which has led to the loss of job opportunity for daily wage labourers. Therefore, a decision was taken to provide relief to such people.

Standing Committee Chairman Nitin Landge and Leader of the House Namdev Dhake were also present on the occasion.

In this regard, Dhake said that the state government has announced meagre financial assistance. “The wrong policies of the state government have led to the starvation of the poor and labourers. BJP MLA Laxman Jagtap and city president Mahesh Landge had suggested that financial assistance should be provided to people from economically weaker section of society. Accordingly, the proposal was tabled at the Standing Committee meeting on Thursday and approved”, informed Dhake and claimed that Pimpri-Chinchwad is the first municipal corporation to provide financial assistance to the needy.
