Maharashtra COVID-19 Update: Omicron Dominant, Recovery Rate at 98.17%
Mumbai, 31st December 2023: In the latest media bulletin released today, Maharashtra provided a comprehensive overview of COVID-19 and epidemic diseases-related statistics. Here are the key highlights:
– Discharges: 51 patients were discharged today. The state’s recovery rate stands at an impressive 98.17%.
– New Cases: The state reported 131 new COVID-19 cases today, with a case fatality rate of 1.81%. New cases include16 in PMC, 5 in PCMC and 6 in Pune. MCGM (Mumbai) 14, Thane Municipal Corporation 15, Navi Mumbai 18, Nagpur Municipal Corporation 11
– Testing: Today’s testing involved 12,405 samples, with 1.05% testing positive. Of these, 2202 were RT-PCR tests, and 10,203 were RAT tests.
COVID Variant:
– Omicron Variant: The dominant variant of COVID-19 in Maharashtra is identified as Omicron XBB.1.16. A total of 1972 cases have been reported, with 19 deaths associated with this variant.
– JN.1 Variant: There have been 29 reported cases of the JN.1 variant in the state. District-wise distribution includes Pune (15), Thane (5), Beed (3), Ch. Sambhjinagar (2), Kolhapur (1), Akola (1), Sindhudurg (1), and Nashik (1).
Deaths:
– Since 1st January 2023, 137 COVID-19 deaths have been recorded. Notably, 70.80% of these deaths occurred in individuals above 60 years of age. Of the deceased, 84% had comorbidities, while 16% did not have any underlying health conditions.
Hospital Admission Information (as of 30th Dec 2023):
– Active Cases: On 30th Dec 2023, there were 613 active cases. Home isolation accounted for 573 cases (93.5%), while hospital admissions totaled 40 (6.5%). Non-ICU hospital admissions stood at 30 (4.9%), and ICU admissions were reported at 10 (1.6%).
