Pune, 15th February 2022: The exemption of one percent Metro surcharge on stamp duty on mortgage transactions in cities where metro projects are underway is due on March 31.

A total of a seven percent surcharge on stamp duty is charged in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Nagpur, Mumbai metropolitan regions where metro work is underway. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Maharashtra state government decided to exempt a one percent surcharge on stamp duty. Earlier, people were paying a six percent surcharge for the past two years.

The state government has not yet decided whether to increase the duty. Starting in April, the citizens from the metro cities are now likely to be charged a total of seven percent stamp duty with a one percent metro surcharge on registration and mortgage.
