Pune: More Than 3,500 Citizens Object Draft Ward Structure Presented By PMC
Pune, 15th February 2022: The draft ward structure made by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the upcoming municipal elections received 3,596 objections. 2,804 objections were received on Monday, the last day to register the objection. These objections will be heard in the next few days.
According to the instructions by the State Election Commission, the election branch of the PMC had announced the draft ward structure on February 1. The process of getting objections was then initiated. The deadline ended on Monday at 3 pm.
Aspiring candidates for the election, representatives of political parties along with existing corporators, have objected to the draft claiming that the ward has been formed without considering the natural boundaries. Objections received by the Election Branch will be submitted to the State Election Commission on 16th February.
Pune-based Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA) Director-General S Chockalingam has been appointed for the hearing process. Objections and suggestions will be heard on February 26 by an official authorized by the Election Commission. After the hearing, a statement regarding the recommendations made by the authorized officers will be sent to the State Election Commission on March 2. The final plan of the ward will be announced after the completion of this process.
According to the Election Branch, the Hadapsar Assembly constituency received the most objections on the last day. 1,034 objections were received from the Wanwadi-Ramtekdi ward Office. The Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar ward office received 289 objections. 253 objections are from Kasba-Vishrambag. 12 objections were received from Shivajinagar-Ghole road, 15 from Yerwada-Kalas-Dhanori, 23 from Bhavani Peth and 35 from Aundh-Baner.
