Maharashtra Elections: Shankar Jagtap Files Nomination for Chinchwad Assembly Constituency
Reported by Tikam Shekhawat
Chinchwad, 28th October 2024: BJP’s Shankar Jagtap, the Mahayuti candidate for the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency, officially filed his nomination papers today in a show of strength. The event was marked by a large rally that started from the party office in Pimple Gurav and proceeded to the election office in Chinchwad, where Jagtap submitted his candidacy. Present at the occasion were sitting MLA Ashwini Laxman Jagtap, members of the Jagtap family, and several party office bearers.
Speaking to the media, Shankar Jagtap expressed confidence about his candidacy, stating, “There is no equal contender against me. If Sharad Pawar had a strong party worker or leader in the fray, this contest might have been more challenging.”
His statement was seen as a direct critique of Mahavikas Aghadi’s candidate, Rahul Kalate whom NCP (Sharad Pawar) has given the ticket from Chinchwad.
The political scenario has also been stirred by Nana Kate, a leader from Ajit Pawar’s faction, who has rebelled and filed his nomination as an independent candidate. Jagtap acknowledged the situation, saying, “We are in talks with Nana Kate regarding his independent candidature. I am confident that our party leaders will resolve this issue soon.”
Jagtap emphasized his commitment to continuing the work of the late Laxman Jagtap, a prominent figure in the region. “The party has entrusted me with this responsibility after my sister-in-law, Ashwini Laxman Jagtap, and I am confident that I will carry out this duty effectively,” Jagtap added.
