Mumbai, 4th March 2021: Lakhs of teachers, staff, and trustees of school colleagues have demanded Varsha Gaikwad, Minister of School Education, Maharashtra, not to make unreasonable changes in the fee structure of private schools in the state as the employees will be severely and severely affected. It is expected that the non-payment of school fees on behalf of parents will affect 6,00,000 teachers and 1,50,000 support staff.

Maharashtra English School Teachers Association (MESTA) has pointed out that the government’s unilateral decisions will have terrible consequences on teachers and support staff’s livelihood. All these people are dependent on school fees. It also states that school fees are the only income source for these private and non-subsidized schools other than government schools. Therefore, the trust has demanded the government to provide financial packages for the employees’ salaries.

Sanjayrao Taide Patil, President of MESTA, said, “Some parents who are not even eligible are demanding a fee cut. Last year, the schools implemented the revised fee, due to which they are facing many economic problems, and the number of unemployment is going to increase in millions. Parents should consider the efforts and hard work during the lockdown. All school-related employees have worked beyond their duties. Like other institutions providing essential services, they should be awarded the title of ‘Covid Warriors.’ Instead, they have not been paid their salaries.”

MESTA has also stated that the teacher and the school’s economic conditions have become extremely pathetic. There is an urgent need for quick financial assistance to run the school’s work and provide a full salary to the employees. It has also expressed fears that if the economic problems continue to confront educational institutions, thousands of schools in the state may have to be closed temporarily or permanently, resulting in far-reaching consequences in the economic system.
