Maharashtra: Girl From Sangli District Selected For Grappling Competition In Spain; Needs Rs 1.5 Lakh To Secure Her Place 

Pune, 28th May 2022: It is often said that to chase dreams, one needs to work hard. One needs to have enough dedication and talent to pursue their dream. To conquer the mountain of hurdles coming in a way of chasing one’s dream, support and motivation play the key role. But what if hurdles start to act stronger than one’s will?

Shreya Ashok Patil, a 17-year-old girl from Kakanwadi, Taluka Miraj, District Sangli is a Grappling player. Shreya also plays other sports like Taekwondo, Judo, Sambo, etc. Shreya got selected for a world championship in Grappling organized by the United World Wrestling Association in Spain.

Shreya’s financial condition is not that good so she needs sponsorship for securing her place in the competition. Shreya’s father is a farmer while her mother is a housewife. 

Her mother, Priya Patil told Indie Journal, “We are asking our neighbours, some people we knew for some financial help. We even met some political leaders from Miraj, Kolhapur, and Sangli for financial help.”

“While doing all these, we gain some bittersweet experiences. Some were eager to help. They believed that Shreya will surely make all of them proud. Only 10 percent of people were not sure about Shreya and her talent. They said that as the game is associated with the federation that is why they were not able to help; which is understandable,” Shreya’s mother added further.

Shreya’s family has collected Rs 1 lakh but still, they need Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand more for securing Shreya’s place at the competition before May 30. Shreya’s father said that she will make all of them proud. “As a father, I have always supported her and will continue to do the same,” Shreya’s father added further.

Amol Kadam, Shreya’s Coach said, “Shreya started playing from the age of 4 but started getting professional training from the age of 7. She started playing in the competitions from class 6 and steadily she started winning medals in district, state, and national level competitions. In one of her games, our Selection team saw the spark in Shreya’s eyes and skills in her moves, and decided to train her for the junior group and planned her training in advanced technique camp, training sessions, etc.”

Shreya’s mother said that Shreya is smart in both academics and sports and that is one of the reasons that people support her and are ready to support us financially as well. “I know with her game and dedication, she will surely win and will make all of us proud,” Shreya’s mother added.
