Pune, 3rd May 2025: In a major relief for students from reserved categories, the Maharashtra government has announced a final three-month extension for submission of caste validity certificates by students belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) and Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC). The decision applies to those admitted to professional courses for the academic year 2024–25.

The extension, effective May 2, 2025, follows continued appeals from students and parents facing difficulties in securing the necessary documents. The state’s General Administration Department has issued a formal government resolution to this effect.

Background of the Extension
Earlier, the government had granted an initial six-month period to submit the certificates, followed by a three-month extension in January 2025. Despite these allowances, several students—especially from engineering, medical, and other professional streams—remained unable to fulfill the requirement.

Responding to growing concerns, the state has now offered this final extension of three months, exclusively for students whose admissions are already confirmed but who are yet to submit their caste validity documents.

Non-Compliance May Lead to Admission Cancellation
The government has made it clear that no further extensions will be granted. Students who fail to submit their caste validity certificates within the revised timeframe risk cancellation of their admissions. In such cases, parents will be held responsible for the consequences.
