Maharashtra Politics: NCP to Contest Local Elections Alone, Confirms Ajit Pawar at Pune Meeting

Pune, 21st July 2024: The Pune City Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) convened a significant meeting today in the Kasba assembly constituency under the leadership of Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar. The primary focus of this gathering was to discuss the strategy for the upcoming local self-government elections and the potential alliance for the forthcoming assembly elections.
For the past two years, elections to local bodies in Maharashtra have been delayed, leaving party workers across the state in anticipation. Ajit Pawar addressed this uncertainty by clarifying the NCP’s stance on contesting these elections.
During the meeting, Ajit Pawar made a crucial announcement, stating that the NCP will contest the upcoming assembly elections as part of the Grand Alliance, which includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde). This decision comes in light of the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the Grand Alliance did not achieve the expected number of seats.
However, Ajit Pawar delineated a different strategy for the local self-government elections. He declared that the NCP would fight these elections independently, without the Grand Alliance. This move aims to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence and focus on local issues specific to Pune and other regions.
Ajit Pawar also emphasized the importance of conveying the plans and achievements of both the central and state governments to the public. He urged party workers to actively engage with citizens and ensure they are well-informed about government schemes and initiatives.
“The NCP is committed to addressing the concerns of the people and ensuring effective governance at all levels,” Ajit Pawar stated. “While we will collaborate with our allies for the assembly elections, our focus on local self-government elections will be to highlight our party’s dedication to local issues and development.”
