Pune, 5th April 2023: Amitabh Gupta, the Additional Director General of Police and Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services in Maharashtra State, reviewed the progress of the ePrisons (ICJS) computerization project. Alongside the Superintendent of Prisons, Gupta examined the computerization equipment requirements, which have been largely fulfilled.

The National Prisons Information Portal provides an overview of prisons in all states and Union Territories in India. Similarly, the ePrisons (ICJS) system has been implemented in the Prisons Department headquarters, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons offices, and Superintendents of Prisons offices. This system saves time and provides accurate information instantaneously, whereas in the past, information was gathered by mail, which was time-consuming and often resulted in outdated information.

Maharashtra prison data

The ePrisons (ICJS) system dashboard displays live information about prisons, including the current population, admission, release, registered visitors, prisoner transfers, and convict releases due. Other information on the dashboard includes absconders or escapees, foreigners, court hearings or police escorts, missed Peshi records, court orders received, parole return due, parole jumpers, premature releases, Cr.P.C.436 A eligible (UTRC), bailed out but not released, and legal aid cases.

The implementation of this computerization project will provide greater transparency and a real-time view of the prison system, allowing for more efficient and effective management of the prisons.
