Maharashtra: Property Document Registration Licenses Issued To 85 Builders

Pune, December 6, 2020: The Maharashtra Registration and Stamp Duty Department is issuing licenses to builders to set up property document registration centres to facilitate the sale and purchase of property and to avoid congestion in the sub registrar’s office during the Covid-19 period. So far, licenses have been issued to 85 builders in the state. Also, the condition of the housing project of 500 flats for these centres has been cancelled.
The scheme does not require citizens to go to the sub registrar’s office to register a property purchase. The document registration process is being done in the office of the builder only. The Department of Registration and Stamp Duty has launched this scheme to make it easier for the citizens to register their deeds and to speed up the sale and purchase of property by increasing the use of the e-registration facility by the builders for registration of sales contracts.
Builders were earlier given licenses to start document registration centres. However, for the first contract registration, it is mandatory to register 500 documents under the e-registration system. Therefore, only builders with large housing projects were benefiting from this scheme. With this in mind, this restriction has been lifted. Therefore, licenses will be issued to any builder for a document registration centre.
In this regard, Inspector General of Registration and Controller of Stamps Omprakash Deshmukh said that under an e-registration system so far 85 builders have been given licenses to start document registration centres through which 608 documents have been registered. Instructions have been given to issue licenses immediately after receiving the application from the builders and these powers have been given to the District Registrar.
How to Process?
Relevant information is sent to the sub registrar’s office after online registration is done at the centre owned by the builder. Approval is given after scrutiny of documents by the Registrar. This process between the builder and the sub registrar’s office has made the registration of documents easier for the citizens.
