Sangli, 14th September 2022: The local police have taken action in the case of the beating of sadhus in Sangli, Maharashtra. Six people have been arrested for the beating. The four sadhus were allegedly attacked by a mob on suspicion of being child lifters. However, the sadhus did not lodge any complaint in this regard even after the video went viral.

The incident took place in Lavanga village of Jat tehsil when four people hailing from Uttar Pradesh were going in a car from Bijapur in Karnataka to Pandharpur town.

A police official said that these men had stayed at a temple in the village on Monday and while starting the yatra on Tuesday, they asked a boy the way, prompting some locals to suspect that they were part of a criminal gang that kidnapped children.

According to the official, “There was an altercation between the two sides, which escalated and the local people allegedly beat up the sadhus with sticks.”

The official said that a police team reached the spot and found that the sadhu was a member of an akhara in Uttar Pradesh.
