Following A Smoke Warning, Passengers Along With Crew Evacuated From Air India Express Muscat-Kochi Flight

Muscat (Oman), 14th September 2022: Today, an Air India Express flight from Muscat to Cochin was evacuated at the Muscat airport in Oman after there were reports of smoke and fire in one of the aircraft’s engines. Slides were used to evacuate everyone on board, and no casualties were reported.
The smoke and fire were reported in Engine No. 2 when the Air India Express Boeing 737-800 flight was taxiing for takeoff. Six crew members and 145 passengers, including four infants, were all evacuated from the aircraft and taken to the terminal building on the taxiway as a precautionary measure.
According to a Kochi-based Air India Express official, some passengers had bruises when they got off the slide, and one female passenger was brought to the medical facility.
According to sources at Air India Express, “Crew from a plane that was flying behind the Air India Express flight noticed the smoke and called for help.”
A Mumbai-Dubai flight will shortly depart from Dubai to pick up passengers in Muscat and transport them to Kochi.
