Maharashtra: Woman RFO Shot Herself With Service Revolver In Amravati

Amravati, 26th March 2021: Deepali Chavan (32), a Range Forest Officer (RFO) at Melghat tiger reserve in Amravati allegedly shot herself on Thursday evening at her residential quarter in Barisal.

Chavan who hailed from Satara district had been working at Harisal with the wildlife section of the Sipna forest division in Melghat, Amravati district. She was working here as RFO for the past two years.

Amravati Superintendent of Police Hari Balaji said, “Chavan was alone at home when she shot herself. Chavan has left a suicide note running into 8 or 9 pages. We are investigating the case.”

Chavan used to stay with her mother, while her husband works as a Treasury officer at Chikhaldara, also in Melghat. He reached Harisal after hearing the news. Her mother had left for Satara on the same day, he added.

On Thursday, Chavan contacted many of her relatives. After that, she called her husband and asked him to come early as she wants to see him one last time. Hearing this her husband Rajesh Mohite got sacred. He immediately called her mother. There was no response from Chavan when they were repeatedly trying to call her.

After that Mohite called her colleagues from the same range and asked them to check on her. When they reached Chavan’s residence, all the gates of the quarter were closed. They managed to get inside and saw the body of Deepali lying on the bed and a revolver was there beside her. She shot herself on the right side of the chest.

Meanwhile, based on a complaint from her husband Mohite, police have arrested Vinod Shivkumar, Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF), Gugamal division of Melghat, for abetment to suicide. Chavan accused him of repeatedly harassing her.
