Pune, 29th May 2023: Due to increased power demand, an additional load was created at Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited’s (Mahatransco) Lonikand 400 kV Extra High Voltage (EHV) substation. As a result, the power supply to some 132 and 220 kV substations of Mahatransco was stopped to avoid the risk of overloading the Lonikand substation and shutting down the entire substation.

Therefore, Chinchwad village, Bhosari MIDC, Dighi, Lonikand, Theur, Uralikanchan and some areas of Chakan including Nagar Road, Kharadi, Lohegaon, Wadgaon Sheri, Yerwada, etc in Pune city had to face electricity cut off for one to two hours today (29th May) afternoon.

The information in this regard is that due to the increased demand for electricity, the electricity load in the Lonikand 400 kV high voltage substation of Mahatransco has increased to a large extent. Due to this extra load, the extra high voltage 400 kV tower line from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to Lonikand was damaged.

As it is not possible to manage the excess load of electricity in the Lonikand substation and as a precautionary measure to prevent the entire Lonikand substation from shutting down due to overloading, the power supply to Kharadi, Theur, Yawat, Chinchwad, Chakan substations of Mahatransco was stopped through the automatic system.

Therefore, electricity load regulation had to be done for one to two hours today in the afternoon on the power lines of MSEDCL coming out from all these high-pressure substations.

In this, some parts of Kharadi, Nagar Road, Chandannagar, Kalyaninagar, Wadgaon Sheri, Vimannagar, Yerwada, and Lohegaon faced load-shedding under Nagar Road Division from 2.25 pm to 3.27 pm in Pune city.

From 3.05 pm to 5.05 pm in the area of Bhosari MIDC, Bhosari Gaonthan, Dighi under Bhosari division and from 3.05 pm to 4 pm in Chinchwad Village, Ravet, Walhekarwadi, Tathwade, Punavale, Thergaon, Wakad and some parts of Pimpri. Electricity cut load regulation had to be done from 2.24 pm to 3.50 pm in Perne, Uralikanchan, Koregaon Mool, Lonikand, Theur villages under the Mulshi division along with some parts of Pimpri. Also, electricity load-shedding had to be done from 3.33 pm to 4.16 pm in the areas of Kurhli, Nanekarwadi, Chimbli, Nighoje, Khalumbre, Alandi Phata which are industrial belts in Chakan under Rajgururnagar division.
