Marathi is not a weak language, all should strive to maintain its dignity : CM Thackeray

Mumbai, February 27, 2020 : “The enemies used to run helter- skelter after hearing the sound of the beats of horse -hoofs of the Maratha Warriors, so how can the ‘Sound of Marathi’, the language of Maratha be weak?” raising this questions the Chief Minister Mr Uddhav Thackeray said that everyone should downplay the worries that the Marathi language is declining. He said that all of us will have to strive hard for maintaining its dignity and further ameliorating it.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the program Iyye Marathichiye Nagari organized on the occasion of Marathi language day under his chairmanship at the state legislature here, today. The chairman of state legislative council Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar speaker of state assembly Nana Patole, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, deputy speaker Mrs Neelam Gorhe, leader of opposition in state legislative council Praveen Darekar, opposition leader of state assembly Devendra Fadnavis, revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat, minister for Marathi language Subhash Desai, transport minister Advocate Anil Parab, litterateur Nilima Gundi, members of state cabinet, state legislature and school students were present in large number on the occasion.
Speaking further Mr Thackeray said that Marathi was the language spoken by Jiajao of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It is the language of Swaraj and it is definitely going to survive. He said that Marathi should not be celebrated one day or one year but it should be Marathi, Marathi and Marathi for the entire life. He said that the sweetness of Marathi lies in its varied usage. Citing example he said that Baeye Daar Ughad can only sound melodious in Marathi. It is this language which comes to your rescue when you are facing hard times, he added. The chief minister said that Marathi is the language which has survived the rule of Mughal and Britishers. He exhumed confidence that it is definitely going to survive.
Today is honor of our mother
Chief Minister Mr Thackeray said that today we all gathered here for honoring our mother. He further said, ‘Marathi is inscribed on the hearts, the rocks and the mountains. Even if we keep on speaking this language, it will be automatically taken to the new generation. We should not celebrate this language for one day at if at all we are to celebrate this day, why should it be with the worry whether Marathi will survive or not?
Marathi is language of strength and devotion
The Chief Minister said that festivals of Marathi language are going on in the entire world and we have to introduce this language and the Marathi culture to our next generation. This is the responsibility of each and every Maharashtrian, he added. The chief minster further said that Marathi is the language of strength and devotion Shakti and Bhakti. He said that it is the responsibility of all of us to keep its dignity and respect, unhindered. He also said that Vasudev, Nandi baylwale, Waghya Murali and other Marathi cultural traditions should be taken to the next generation.
Happy on compulsion of Marathi language
Mr Uddhav Thackeray said that it gives him immense pleasure that Marathi language had been made compulsory till class 10, during his tenure as the chief minister.
