Camp, 14th July 2026: Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar in Pune witnessed an overwhelming turnout on Saturday, 11th July, as members of the Sikh community gathered for a special screening of the film Satluj. The event attracted hundreds of attendees, including youngsters, families and senior citizens, many of whom were drawn by the popularity of actor Diljit Dosanjh. However, organisers said the evening evolved into a powerful platform for reflection on a painful chapter in Sikh history.

The screening left many in the audience visibly emotional, with attendees engaging in discussions about historical events, collective memory and the importance of preserving the truth for future generations. Several members of the community said the film highlighted the suffering endured during that period and encouraged conversations that have often remained absent from mainstream public discourse.

During the discussions, audience members raised questions about why such stories and historical narratives are only now reaching wider audiences. Some attendees expressed the view that these conversations and cinematic portrayals should have emerged earlier, particularly when key officials associated with that era, including former Punjab Police Chief K.P.S. Gill and other senior police officers, were still alive, arguing that earlier public scrutiny could have strengthened accountability.

“The overwhelming response to the screening of Satluj reflects the community’s desire to understand and preserve its history. The film has opened the door to meaningful conversations on remembrance, truth and accountability. We are thankful to everyone who attended and helped maintain a peaceful, respectful and reflective environment throughout the event,” said Raj Singh, Founder of the Sikh Foundation.

Attendees described the screening as more than a film event, saying it served as a space for the community to reflect on shared experiences, honour historical memory and engage in constructive dialogue.

The programme concluded peacefully, with the management committee of Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar thanking all participants for their disciplined participation and for contributing to an atmosphere of mutual respect and thoughtful discussion.
