New Delhi, 11th June 2022: A 64-year-old patient died after a fire broke out at a hospital in Delhi’s Rohini area in the early hours of Saturday. This happened allegedly after the oxygen supply was disrupted.

The police said that all the other patients admitted in the hospital are completely safe.

Pranav Tayal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), said that the fire was reported at 5 AM on the third floor of Brahm Shakti Hospital in Pooth Khurd. After this the local police reached the spot and the fire brigade was called.

Atul Garg, Director of Delhi Fire Service (DFS), said that a total of nine fire tenders were sent to the spot to douse the fire. Garg said that the fire has been completely brought under control.

The DCP said that all were rescued except one patient, who was admitted to the ICU and was on ventilator support.

“Holi, a kidney patient and a resident of Prem Nagar, was rescued, but died due to disruption of power and oxygen supply,” DCP Tayal said.

No fire fighting system was found to be operational in the hospital and the fire exit door was found closed/blocked, the police official said.

The DCP said that a case has been registered at Vijay Vihar police station for offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or inflammable substance), 287 (negligent conduct in relation to machinery) and 304A (causing death by negligence).

Earlier on May 27, there were incidents of fire at Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi and Makkar Multispeciality Hospital in East Delhi, but there were no casualties in them.
