Massive Traffic Jam on Mumbai–Pune Expressway In Ghat Area
Lonavala, 25th February 2026: A massive traffic jam brought vehicular movement to a near standstill on the Pune-bound carriageway of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway on Wednesday morning, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours.
Preliminary reports indicate that an accident near the Amrutanjan Bridge may have triggered the congestion, though officials were yet to confirm the exact cause at the time of filing this report.
Long queues of vehicles were seen stretching across several kilometres, with drivers and passengers facing significant inconvenience due to the sudden gridlock. Many vehicles remained stuck on the highway for hours, severely disrupting travel plans. Commuters expressed frustration as delays caused them to miss important meetings and work commitments.
The incident has once again raised concerns about traffic management and road safety on one of Maharashtra’s busiest corridors. The expressway witnesses thousands of vehicles daily, especially during peak hours, making it highly vulnerable to cascading congestion following even minor incidents.
Earlier, a similar situation had unfolded on the same expressway when a gas tanker overturned, leading to heavy traffic snarls on the Mumbai-bound stretch for over 32 hours. That incident had also resulted in prolonged delays and commuter hardship.
