Dr. S. S. Haridas, Associate Director, MITSOG, said, “The wellbeing of a nation depends largely on its future generation. Through this program, we seek to provide knowledge and skills in the areas of political processes, systems, foreign policy, political economy, public policy, constitution, constituency development and election management, amongst many other focus areas in politics. Students having completed this program would be able to understand the dynamics of Indian politics and get a holistic training of politics and governance.”

Programs such as this become critical in order to channelize the energy of the youth and develop the future talent pipeline by equipping them with leadership skills and knowledge so as to be able to run the nation efficiently.

This program offers an excellent blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience where the students would be able to apply theory and skills learnt during the first year to actual practical application in actual situations in the second year of the course. Graduates from any stream from a recognized university would be eligible for this program. Candidates appearing for their final year graduation exam may also apply. The selection process would comprise of a written test followed by a personal interview taken by the selection panel.

The program also entails extensive training along with knowledge and skills enhancement especially in the areas of Politics and Governance. The program consists of interactive sessions with national level leaders from political, social, bureaucratic, judicial, media and corporate sector, along with local field visits to NGOs, model villages, Gram Panchayats, Zilla Parishads, Municipal Corporations and political party offices.

Students would also get a detailed training on Constituency Development and Elections & Campaign Management along with a 10-day National Study Tour to Delhi during the budget session each year where they would get to witness the proceedings in the Lok Sabha & the Rajya Sabha. They would also be able to interact with Members of both houses of the Parliament, at Elections Commission office, Rashtrapati Bhawan to name a few. Another highlight of the course would be the enactment of a Model Parliament chaired by Speaker of one of the State Assemblies thus providing participants to emulate the proceedings of the parliament.

An optional 2-week international study tour to Europe would also be provided to students to gain exposure to international politics. Students would need to undergo an internship at the end of the first year in different sectors such as Constituency, NGOs, issue-based and career-based Political party offices and/or political leaders in the second and final year.
