Pune: Man Arrested for Duping Victim of Rs 32 Lakh With Promise Of Part Time Job

Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th May 2024: Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested a man from Meera Bhayander in Thane who allegedly defrauded an individual of Rs 32 lakh 92 thousand on the pretext of offering a part-time job to assist with a hotel business.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Zaid Zakir Khan, aged 20, residing in Mira Bhayander, Thane.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doifode, an individual from Sangvi was approached by an unknown individual offering a part-time job from home, purported to be a recruiter for an agency. The caller claimed to be involved in the promotion of a hotel business and suggested that the victim could assist from home.

The victim from Sangvi was provided with a link and assigned tasks involving liking and sharing. After gaining the victim’s trust, the perpetrator persuaded them to invest Rs 5,000. In return, the victim received Rs 6,500. However, the perpetrator gradually defrauded the victim of Rs 32 lakh 92 thousand 563 through various bank accounts, enticing the victim to invest in additional tasks.

A case has been registered at Sangvi Police Station, and a parallel investigation was conducted by the Cyber Cell. Utilizing technical methods, the Cyber Cell located the accused in Meera Bhayander and subsequently apprehended him in that area. A mobile phone was seized from the suspect.

An account in the name of the accused Khan has been discovered, with an additional transaction of Rs 18 lakh. Furthermore, the suspect has opened bank accounts in the names of acquaintances. It has also been revealed that two complaints have been lodged against Zaid Khan in other states.
