MNGL Hikes CNG and PNG Prices by Rs 0.75 in Pune and Surrounding Areas

Pune, 8th April 2025: Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has announced a marginal hike in prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Domestic Piped Natural Gas (D-PNG) by ₹0.75 per unit across Pune city, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and nearby regions including Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjewadi. The revised rates will come into effect from midnight of April 8-9, 2025.
With this revision, the retail price of CNG will increase from ₹89.00/kg to ₹89.75/kg, while the D-PNG price will rise from ₹49.90/SCM to ₹50.65/SCM in the same areas.
According to MNGL, the revision was necessitated due to a rise in input costs, including an increase in the price of domestic gas from $6.50 to $6.75 per mmbtu, marking a 4% hike. Additionally, oil marketing companies have raised trade margins by 5%, effective April 1, 2025.
Despite these cost pressures, MNGL stated that it has adopted a measured approach, opting to partially pass on the increased costs to consumers. “The company is committed to maintaining a balance between operational viability and customer affordability,” MNGL said in a statement.
The new CNG price includes Excise Duty and State VAT, together comprising less than 1% of the total price. Even after the revision, CNG remains the most economical and environmentally sustainable fuel in Pune, offering savings of up to 45% compared to petrol and over 20% compared to diesel in passenger cars and auto-rickshaws.
Similarly, the D-PNG price revision of ₹0.75 per SCM represents a nominal 1.5% increase, inclusive of applicable taxes.
The revised prices apply to all MNGL-authorized geographical areas, reaffirming the company’s continued efforts to provide seamless gas supply while minimizing the impact on its consumers.
