Lonavala, 11th December 2023: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) today staged a rail roko protest at Lonavala railway station, demanding an increase in the number of long-distance trains and local trains between Pune and Lonavala. MNS workers descended onto the railway tracks, briefly halting the Deccan Queen. Lonavala police were visibly strained while managing the MNS workers.

With thousands of people commuting daily from Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad to Lonavala for work and the region being a popular tourist destination, the demand for improved rail services has gained prominence. Currently, students and commuters face long waits at Lonavala railway station due to the limited availability of local trains. Moreover, the absence of halts for long-distance express trains at Lonavala adds to the inconvenience.

The Lonavla MNS initiated the rail stop movement to address these concerns. A reminder has been issued to the station master by the MNS, emphasizing their demands. The MNS has warned that if their demands are not met, they will not allow trains to continue from Lonavla station. This move aims to draw attention to the challenges faced by citizens and students due to the current rail service limitations.
