New Delhi, 25th July 2022: In the last few years, the number of Indian citizens taking foreign citizenship has increased by a lot. Most of the people who went abroad in search of a good education system and better job have now started taking citizenship there.

According to government figures, about 1 lakh people are taking citizenship of countries other than India every year. Just a few months ago, the country’s Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, in response to a question in the Lok Sabha, presented the figures related to the Indian people taking foreign citizenship, which was really shocking.

In 2015, where 1,41,000 people took foreign citizenship, in 2016 this number went beyond 1,44,000. This number continued to increase till the year 2019. In 2020, due to Corona, this figure came down slightly to around eighty-eight thousand, but from 2021 this figure again went near 1,00,000. That is, more than 350 Indians are getting foreign citizenship every day.

Experts say that in search of better education, guarantee of a good career and economic prosperity, Indians are moving abroad and taking citizenship there and settling there. It has been revealed in many research papers that the loss of a large number of jobs in India, lack of good education system and lack of business environment for small and big businessmen are the biggest reasons for migration.

Between 2017 and 2021, the US continues to be the first choice with 42% of the Indian population. On the other hand, Canada is at number two where 91,000 Indian people have obtained citizenship in the last five years. Australia is in third place with 86,000 people, England with 66,000 and Italy with 23,000 are in fourth and fifth place respectively.
