More than one lakh people sent on Shramik special trains from Pune Railway Division

Pune, May 21, 2020: Indian Railways is running Shramik  special trains for stranded workers, tourists, students, and other people in Pune and adjoining areas. They are being sent to their hometowns on the request of state government. In Pune, the work is being done under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Renu Sharma.

Till now 77 trains have ferried more than one lakh passengers in Pune railway division. Extensive arrangements have been made by the railway officials and employees, due to which the operation of trains at the stations is running smoothly. 39 Shramik Special trains have left from Pune station alone while Kolhapur, Miraj Satara, Uruli, Pune are the stations of Railway Division. Shramik Special trains have been sent to Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur.

Shramik Special trains started from 7th May and till now more than one lakh people have been provided facility to reach their states through 77 trains. Out of this, more than 50 thousand people boarded trains from Pune station itself. These special trains are being run at the request of the state governments and only after their approval. The workers registered by them are being sent through these trains after formalities like a medical check-up of the people before the special train departs. Therefore, people are advised to contact the district administration officials and for their travel. No passenger should reach the station directly.

In a press release, the railway stated, “The trains completely cleaned and sanitized before passengers board them. The necessary facilities like water, electricity, fans are provided in the trains. All necessary steps have been taken for this. In future, even more, special trains will be run at the request of the state governments, for this, the Pune Divisional Railway Administration and its team is fully prepared.

Food packets and water are also being provided to all the passengers. Passengers are being told to follow rules such as following the social distance while travelling, taking care of cleanliness, not messing up the coaches, not spitting there, applying masks on the face.”
