MP Government To Make Laws On ‘Love Jihad’ With Provision Of Punishment For 5 years
Bhopal, November 17, 2020: The Madhya Pradesh (MP) government is soon going to enact a law on ‘Love Jihad’. State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that soon we will bring a law against ‘Love Jihad’ in the Assembly. This will be a non-bailable offence and there will be a provision of punishment of up to five years for the culprits. Earlier, the UP government has also talked about making laws against ‘Love Jihad’, a term coined by rightwing outfits opposing inter-faith marriage between Muslim men and Hindu women.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that in the upcoming assembly session, the Shivraj Singh Chauhan government will introduce a Bill for Religious Freedom Act regarding Love Jihad and after the law is made, a case under non-bailable sections will be filed and punished will stand up to 5 years.
According to Narottam Mishra, those who help in Love Jihad will also be punished like the main accused and the provision for punishing those who force to convert for marriage will also be under ambit of this law. However, for voluntary conversion to get married, the person concerned will have to apply to the Collector office a month in advance.
Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that marriages either by force or by fraudulently concealed identity will be considered void after this law.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also made a big statement against Love Jihad and made it clear that if such a case comes up in Madhya Pradesh, it will be dealt with strictly and soon a law against Love Jihad will be implemented countrywide. CM Shivraj had directed the officials to prepare a blueprint of the law.
