New Delhi, 15th April 2022: The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has taken a big decision on Thursday regarding admission to its schools. Now till further orders, admission has been banned in Kendriya Vidyalayas under special provisions including MPs and District Magistrate quota.

According to a circular issued by the KVS headquarters, no admission should be made “under special provisions” until further orders.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi has welcomed the decision of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) to ban admission in KVS schools under special provisions including MP and DM quota. The former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar had raised the issue in the recently concluded budget session of Parliament and demanded the abolition of such quota in Kendriya Vidyalayas.

Sushil Modi said that this decision will benefit around 15,000 SC, ST, OBC students every year. This quota needs to be abolished permanently. Neither the reservation rules are followed in such enrollment in KV admission nor the basis of admission is merit. Hence 30,000 seats will increase in one stroke on the basis of reservation and eligibility for enrollment.

According to data furnished by the Ministry of Education in Lok Sabha, 1,75,261 admissions took place in KVs through 21 special provisions in 2021-22. This included 7,301 through the MPs’ quota, under which each MP can recommend 10 cases for admission in Classes I to IX at the beginning of each academic year. Under the rules, the 10 names have to be confined to children whose parents belong to his/ her constituency.
