MTDC Pune Celebrates World Tourism Day with Student Competitions and Awareness Initiatives
Pune, 29th September 2025: September 27 marks World Tourism Day, celebrated annually by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). In Pune, the Regional Office of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) organized a series of activities to mark the occasion.
As part of the celebrations, essay writing and drawing competitions were held for school students. A total of 130 students participated enthusiastically, including 40 students from Shri Veer Shivaji Pasalkar Vidyalaya, Panshet, 40 from Zilla Parishad Primary School, Rajpur (Bhimashankar), and 50 from Zilla Parishad Primary School, Karla. Certificates of participation were distributed to all students.
At MTDC resorts, tourists enjoyed traditional welcome ceremonies, trekking activities, and local games. On the eve of World Tourism Day, a webinar on “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation” was conducted. Dr. Sanjeev Mittal delivered a lecture on sustainable tourism, while Krishnanand Mali spoke on rural tourism. The webinar was attended by around 80 participants.
These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about tourism, eco-friendly travel, and the importance of preserving local traditions and culture. In addition, MTDC Pune launched a mobile-based facility for booking MTDC accommodations, making it easier for tourists to plan their stays.
