Murlidhar Mohol Meets Raj Thackeray, Discusses Pune’s Development Agenda

Mumbai, 22nd June 2024: Pune MP and Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, met with Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray at his Shivtirth Bungalow in Mumbai yesterday. Mohol expressed his gratitude to Thackeray for campaigning and holding a meeting in Pune, which significantly contributed to Mohol’s victory. Thackeray has a special attachment to Pune, having addressed a public meeting about the city’s future and expressing expectations from its leaders during the Lok Sabha election campaign.
Following the election results, Murlidhar Mohol met with Raj Thackeray to discuss Pune’s development. Given Mohol’s role as Minister of State for Civil Aviation, discussions also touched upon matters within his department. Mohol himself acknowledged Thackeray’s guidance during their meeting.
The MNS had supported the Mahayuti alliance in the Lok Sabha elections, and while the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections are still ahead, decisions regarding Mahayuti’s stance will be deliberated among senior leaders. Mohol hinted that the Vidhan Sabha might see a similar alignment as the Lok Sabha, suggesting that MNS could continue to support the Grand Alliance.
Murlidhar Mohol, elected as Pune’s MP for the first time, received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office and was inducted into the cabinet as a minister, marking a significant career milestone. Mohol defeated Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar, transitioning from his previous role as mayor to a Union Minister and an MP. This opportunity is seen as pivotal, offering Mohol a chance to enhance BJP’s presence in western Maharashtra and provide leadership from the Maratha community.
Despite Maha Vikas Aghadi’s strong performance in Western Maharashtra during the Lok Sabha elections, Mohol is tasked with bolstering BJP’s position in the region. This appointment underscores the BJP’s confidence in Mohol’s capabilities early in his tenure as an MP.
