NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY CONDUCTS LARGEST EVER SAILING REGATTA IN THE COUNTRY

The 2nd NDA Inland Enterprise Championship 2016 was conducted by National Defence Academy from 02-05 Jun 2016 at Peacock Bay, Khadakwasla under the aegis of National Enterprise Association of India (NEA). The championship is the 34th edition of the event at NDA. It was renamed as NDA IEC in 2015. The event witnessed participation of 184 sailors in 92 teams from all over India. The overwhelming participation from 13 clubs and 14 individual entries made this year event enter record books as the largest sailing regatta held anywhere in the country. Air Vice Marshal SP Wagle, VM, Officiating Commandant National Defence Academy graced the Prize Distribution Ceremony of the event as chief guest on 05 Jun 16. He gave away the certificates, medals and trophies to the winners.

Master Dhruv Gadre, a 11 year old sailor from INWTC (Goa) sailing club bagged the youngest helmsman trophy whereas the oldest helmsman trophy was won by Commander ML Sharma of INWTC (Kochi). Rolling trophy for youth champion (Helm & Crew) was won by Vishnu Sarvanan and Abhimanyu Kanwar of MG & G Area sailing club. Best lady (helm & crew) Rolling Trophy was won by Shweta Shervegar and Tulsi Chauhan respectively who participated as individual team entry. Nb Sub Ayaz Shaikh and Shubham Patel of Army Yaching Node, Mumbai emerged winners of National Defence Academy Inland Enterprise Championship 2016. They were awarded with rolling trophy, Medals and certificates by the chief guest.

A total of 15 races were scheduled on 04 days of racing at the picturesque Khadakwasla Lake. Sailing conditions varied from lull winds in stifling heat on the second day to strong breeze and choppy waters on third day evening. The NDA IEC is one of the oldest running sailing events in the country. Year after year the event attracts the variety of the sailors from various backgrounds and professions. One can often spot parents and children sailing in the same boat competing with the best sailors in the country.
