National Seminar on “Innovative and Best Practices in Higher Education” held at Modern College

Pune, July 27, 2019 : Progressive Education Society’s Modern College of Arts, Science & Commerce, and Ganeshkhind organized one day National Seminar on “Innovative and Best Practices in Higher Education”. The seminar worked as a platform whereby NAAC, UGC, IQAC Cluster and SPPU came together to improve quality of higher education.

The thoughts and policies of the authorities working in the field of education has reached to Principals, IOAC coordinators and teachers of various institutions. Dr SC Sharma, Director NAAC, Bangalore, Dr Gajanan Ekbote, Chairman, Progressive Education Society and Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Vice Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), were present for the inaugural session.

Dr Nitin Karmalkar said that the process of NAAC is an opportunity and various colleges participate in the process of NAAC and this helps to increase the quality of higher education. Education helps in development of personality of an individual and therefore the quality of higher education needs to be maintained. He appreciated the efforts of PES Modern College, Ganeshkhind for organizing the seminar as it had helped to bring together more than 400 institutions.

Dr S C Sharma, Director, NAAC said, that education is a continuous process and he emphasized on outcome based learning and three dimensional approach in education. He also said that education should help in social and economic development of the nation. Therefore NAAC is working to increase the level of higher education.

Dr Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chairman, UGC said that “STRIDE” is a scheme to strengthen research component in colleges and research should be a continuous process in colleges. Also, research should increase the quality of life; it is a UGC mandate and this has been put forth through NAAC. There is a need of more research in Humanities and Social Sciences “STRIDE” is supporting financially for quality research. All colleges should take benefits of the scheme.

On this event the website of IQAC Cluster was inaugurated by Dr Bhushan Patwardhan. Any problem faced by the institutions can be communicated through IQAC Cluster using the website www.iqacclusterindia.com.

Dr Renu Batra, Additional Secretary, UGC said that Indian education system is very vast and diverse, still 80% of the students drop after completing graduation and higher education institutes should take a notice of it.

 

 

The initiative of IQAC cluster taken by PES Modern College, Ganeshkhind is actively working throughout India and more than 1200 colleges are associated with it. Prof Peeyush Pahade, founder member, IQAC Cluster said that any college going through the process of NAAC can contact   IQAC   Cluster and they will try best to solve their problem.

Dr Devender Kawday, Dy Advisor, NAAC Bangalore summarized the contribution of NAAC in higher education. Dr Vishwajit Pendse spoke on response ability. Prof Anirudh Deshpande, Director CEDA explained the core values of NAAC. Dr NS Umrani, Pro Vice Chancellor, SPPU were present on this occasion.

The programme was compered by Dr Shampa Chakraborty. Dr Prakash Dixit, Dy Secretory proposed vote of thanks. The programme commenced with Ganesh Vandana by Prof Varsha Joshi. The seminar is coordinated by Prof Parag Shah. Prof Shamkant Deshmukh, Secretory, PES, Prof Suresh Todkar, Joint Secretory, PES and Dr Prakash Dixit, Deputy Secretory, PES cooperated wholeheartedly to make the event successful. Under the able guidance of Dr Sanjay Kharat, the seminar was a grand success. 385 educationists from different colleges registered for this seminar. Dr Nivedita Ekbote coordinated the sessions.
