NDA Khadakwasla Drenched in 81.5 mm Deluge as Sudden Thunderstorms Lash Pune District; Extensive Rainfall Data Released

Pune, 21st June 2026: A series of sudden and intense thunderstorms accompanied by heavy lightning swept across Pune district on Sunday, lashing several areas with erratic, highly localized showers. According to official meteorological reports compiled for the 12-hour period between 8:30 AM IST and 8:30 PM IST, the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Khadakwasla recorded a massive rainfall of 81.5 mm, representing the heaviest downpour in the region.

The rainfall distribution across the district showed stark variations, with central urban areas and certain rural pockets receiving moderate showers while other sectors remained completely dry. In the Shivajinagar area, different monitoring stations captured localized variations: the consolidated city weather update recorded 18.7 mm of rain, the Shivajinagar AMFU station logged 18.5 mm, and the Shivajinagar Pune AWS recorded 11.0 mm. Meanwhile, Gudhe in Bhor taluka experienced a significant downpour of 16.5 mm.

Other parts of the district recorded lighter but notable showers during this period. Both the MTI Pashan Pune station and the Narayangaon Krishi Kendra logged 8.0 mm of rainfall. This was followed by the Pashan AWS Lab which recorded 6.0 mm, Bhugaon MT which registered 5.0 mm, and Walhe in Purandar which saw 4.5 mm. Furthermore, Lavale and Pabal in Shirur each received 3.5 mm of rain, while Khadakwadi in Ambegaon registered 3.0 mm. Lohegaon recorded a trace rainfall of just 0.6 mm.

In contrast to the wet zones, a total of 14 monitoring stations across Pune district remained completely dry and recorded 0.0 mm of rainfall. These areas with no precipitation included Chinchwad Pune, Magarpatta, Koregaon Park, Nimgiri in Junnar, CAGMO Shivajinagar, CME Dapodi, DPS Hadapsar, Khutbav in Daund, NIASM in Baramati, Rajgurunagar, Talegaon, Girivan, RJSPMCOP in Dudulgaon, and Wadgaonsheri.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast that this wet spell is set to continue. Over the next six days, from June 22 to June 27, 2026, Pune and its neighboring areas are very likely to experience daily afternoon and evening thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light-to-moderate rainfall.
