Neeraj Chopra Wins Silver Medal in Paris Olympics Javelin Throw; Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem Clinches Gold
Paris, 9th August 2024: Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured the silver medal at the Paris Olympics, delivering a season-best performance with a throw of 89.45 meters on his second attempt. Despite his strong start, Neeraj’s remaining throws were marked as fouls, leaving him just short of the top podium position.
The gold medal was claimed by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who achieved a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. Arshad’s dominant performance included two throws exceeding the 90-meter mark, solidifying his victory in the competition.
Neeraj, 26, had earlier set the stage for a promising final by leading the qualification round with a throw of 89.34 meters, which had positioned him as a favorite for gold. However, in the final, he faced stiff competition from Arshad Nadeem, Anderson Peters of Grenada, and Julian Weber of Germany.
India had high hopes for a gold medal from Neeraj, especially after his stellar performance in the qualification round. While he fell short of the gold, his silver medal win is a proud achievement for the nation, adding to his illustrious career as one of India’s premier athletes on the global stage.
Neeraj Chopra’s silver medal continues to showcase India’s growing prowess in the javelin throw, and his rivalry with Arshad Nadeem has added a new chapter to the sports history of both nations.
