Pune, 30th June 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Pune Division, has registered 515 cases and collected ₹4,53,650 in administrative penalties during the first ten days of implementing the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, which came into effect on June 20.

The Act amends provisions of the Railways Act, 1989, by replacing criminal prosecution with administrative penalties for several minor railway offences. These include unauthorized hawking, trespassing, smoking in prohibited areas, unauthorized entry into reserved coaches, and disobeying lawful directions issued by railway officials.

According to RPF Pune, the revised enforcement mechanism is intended to simplify legal procedures and facilitate faster disposal of cases through administrative action instead of criminal proceedings.

Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Priyanka Sharma said the Jan Vishwas Act introduces a simplified approach to railway law enforcement by focusing on administrative penalties for specified minor offences. She said the RPF is implementing the amended provisions while continuing to ensure accountability and passenger safety.

The RPF has also appealed to passengers to comply with railway rules by avoiding trespassing, unauthorized hawking, smoking in prohibited areas and unauthorized travel in reserved coaches.

The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Act, 2026, came into force on June 20, introducing changes in the handling of specified minor offences under the Railways Act through administrative penalties instead of criminal prosecution.
