No Water Cut In Pune At Present, Has Water Supply Till July 15: Guardian Minister Patil

Pune, 26th April 2023: Pune city will not face water cuts in the immediate future, according to Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, who chaired the recent canal advisory committee meetings for projects in the district.
However, in view of the meteorological department’s forecast of a possible shortage this year, it is necessary to conserve water in the dam.
Patil announced that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should submit measures within eight days to remove the technical difficulties in connection with the problem of disruption of water supply in some areas if water is cut for one day in a week in Pune city.
In the Khadakwasla Project Canal Advisory Committee meeting, MP Vandana Chavan, former state minister MLA Dattatray Bharne, MLA Madhuri Misal, Rahul Kul, Bhimrao Tapkir, Ashok Pawar, Sanjay Jagtap, Ravindra Dhangekar, PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, Krishna Valley Development Corporation Executive Director Atul Kapole, Chief Engineer Hanumant Gunale, Superintending Engineer Sunanda Jagtap were present.
The Guardian Minister said that various measures are being taken at the government level to address the possible shortage, including starting fodder planning and preparations to bring fodder from nearby states. Planning is also underway to supply water in the dam till August.
Currently, Pune city has planned water supply till July 15, and if water is cut for one day every week, the same water can be supplied till August.
However, people’s representatives complain that water supply is disrupted for the next few days in some areas after a one-day water cut. Therefore, the PMC must study the problem and present technical measures within eight days. Until then, water will not be cut. Patil emphasized that sufficient water supply is also necessary for agriculture.
In the same meeting, it was decided to leave the second summer cycle from May 1 to June 15 for irrigation of new Mutha right canal. The four dams of the Khadakwasla project currently have a combined water storage of 11.61 TMC till April 25, and 4.53 TMC of water has been reserved for PMC till July 15.
Additionally, the meeting discussed several projects, including the lining of the Old Mutha Right Canal, the tunnel for the new Mutha Right Canal from Khadakwasla project to Loni Kalbhor, the Janai Shirsai Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the strengthening of the Purandar Lift Irrigation Scheme.
