Now 11 trains every day from Pune for stranded people

Pune, May 20, 2020: Prior permission of the concerned state was required to send the workers stranded in the district including the city due to the lockdown. However, this condition has been relaxed by the central government. Therefore, 11 trains will depart every day from Pune carrying stranded workers to their states, informed District Collector Naval Kishor Ram.

 

He said, “As many as 1.21 lakh workers stranded in the district, including the city, have applied to the administration to return home. However, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand have 103 pending train proposals.

 

However, the central government has relaxed the condition of obtaining prior permission from the concerned states. Therefore, plans are being made with the railway administration to release as many trains as possible to send the stranded workers home from Pune.

 

Railway administration will release trains for workers from Pune railway station, Uruli Kanchan and Daund stations. Eleven trains can leave from these three stations daily. At present, it was planned to release five trains daily from Pune. However, the Centre’s relaxation of the permit condition will not cause any problem in sending six more trains. Today 11,000 workers are being sent in eight trains from Pune.

 

Workers must be registered with the administration to go home. Accordingly, 1 lakh 21 thousand workers from the district including the city have so far applied to the administration to go home. Proposals were sent to the concerned states for sending migrant workers. So far, 124 proposals for various trains have been sent. Out of which 103 proposals were pending. These included 37 proposals to Uttar Pradesh, 24 to Bihar, five to Chhattisgarh, 17 to Madhya Pradesh and seven to Jharkhand. With the removal of prior permission condition from the concerned states, the stranded workers in Pune will be able to go home soon.
