Pune, 11th June 2021: A decision that may not be liked by many was recently taken by the management council of Savitirbai Phule Pune University (SPPU). The management has decided to charge outsiders who visit the 411-acre campus for morning and evening walks.
The campus is a favourite among people staying within a few kilometre radii. Till now, they have been given free entry.
As per a circular issued by SPPU Registrar Dr Praffula Pawar, the new scheme will come into effect from June 21 (Yoga Day) when the university will launch its ‘SPPU Oxy Park’ initiative. People will have to submit the cheque to the varsity’s Security Department along with a membership form for the ‘SPPU Oxy Park.
The charges, including GST, are as follows:
One Month – Rs 1,000
Six Months – Rs 5,500
One Year – Rs 10,000
The circular says that a family member of the pass-holder will get a 25 per cent discount, while people from weaker sections will get 50 per cent of the concession. Divyang (physically handicapped) people will not be charged any fee. For children aged 9-16 years, only a registration and identity card fee of Rs 500 will be accepted. People with identity card will only be given entry, the circular states.
Now, outsiders with an identity card will be given entry for exercise from 4.30 am to 8 am and 6.30 pm to 8 pm.
“The membership form is only for outsiders. SPPU employees, members and residents of the campus will not be required to pay the amount,” Pawar mentioned in his circular.
In lieu of the fee charged, the university has promised to provide the following facilities/services:
1. SPPU Oxy Park membership and identity card.
2. Emergency medical services and cardio ambulance.
3. Safe environment.
4. Open gym.
5. Free parking
