Omicron: Restrictions Imposed In Maharashtra On Gathering Of People At Night, Social Programs, Restaurants Etc

Mumbai/Pune, 24th December 2021: The Maharashtra state government has imposed some restrictions to prevent the spread of Coronavirus disease (COVID19) in the state. The order will be in effect from midnight today.

Maharashtra Chief Secretary Debashish Chakraborty has issued the following additional restrictions:

– Gathering of more than 5 persons in all public places across the state will be prohibited from 9 pm to 6 am.
– The number of attendees in a closed hall for a wedding ceremony should not be more than 100 at a time and in open space this number should not be more than 250 or 25% of the capacity of this space whichever is less.
– For other social, political, religious events also the number of attendees should not be more than 100 and in open space this number should not be more than 250 or 25% of the capacity of this space whichever is less.
– For events other than the above two events, in confined spaces where the seating capacity is not more than 50% of the capacity and where the seating capacity is not fixed, the attendance will be 25%. In all such events, if they are held in open space, the attendance will not be more than 25% of the seating capacity.
– Attendance for sports competitions, sports ceremonies shall not exceed 25% of the seating capacity of the venue.
– District Disaster Management Authority will determine the number of attendees at any of the above events or gatherings. In doing so, it will be seen that the Disaster Management Order dated 27 November 2021 will be complied with.

– Restaurants, gyms, spas, cinemas, theaters will have 50% capacity attendance. All of them will have to declare their full seating capacity as well as 50 per cent capacity.

In addition, the District Disaster Management Authority may impose restrictions wherever it deems necessary and will require the public to have an idea before doing so.

The number of patients is doubling, especially in Europe as well as in the UK, due to the Omicron variant. Omicron has spread to 110 countries around the world.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has said that due to the high rate of spread of the virus, some restrictions should be imposed at present and further restrictions should be considered in the future.

The Chief Minister also said that if the infection is not to be allowed to spread, it is necessary for all to follow the rules responsibly and use masks.

Not only this, the Union Health Ministry has also asked all the states to take adequate care and measures to prevent infection.

The Chief Minister also said that the current nature of the restrictions is preliminary and if they are not imposed now, it may be time to impose more stringent restrictions in the future.
The state has also seen more than a thousand positive COVID patients in the last two days. As the Christmas festivities, weddings, and New Year’s receptions are likely to increase, therefore it has been decided to impose some additional restrictions on the entire state.
