On-Site Land Inspections Begin Across Pune to Curb Misuse of Government Property
Pune, 18th November 2025: In a major step to curb irregularities in land transactions, the Pune district administration has launched a comprehensive audit of government-owned lands. District Collector Jitendra Dudi has directed officials to update all land records through on-site inspections, rather than relying solely on paperwork. The initiative aims to enhance transparency and prevent misuse of public land across Pune district, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and rural areas.
Over the years, large tracts of government land have been allotted on lease to various state departments, as well as social, educational, and housing institutions. These lands fall under the Class-2 category. The state government has allowed Class-2 lands to be converted into Class-1 through a policy decision, which requires the payment of a prescribed premium. Once upgraded to Class-1, these lands can be legally transacted.
However, officials have found multiple instances where Class-2 government lands were sold or transferred without mandatory prior permission from the state. Outdated revenue records have enabled such unauthorised transactions, and in many cases, lands were registered without payment of the required premium, resulting in legal disputes and loss of government revenue.
To address these issues, the Collector has ordered a district-wide verification drive. Teams will visit each site to inspect the land, record its current use, prepare panchanamas, and update revenue entries. Errors in existing records will be corrected. Any allottee found violating lease conditions will have their land repossessed, and pending premium dues will be recovered.
