Mumbai, 6th May 2025: In the aftermath of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian authorities have reported more than one million cyber attacks targeting key Indian websites since 23rd April. In response, Indian hacker groups, notably operating under the name “Cyber Commander,” have claimed to have hacked over 1,500 Pakistani websites, including government, educational, and official databases, uploading pro-India messages as a warning.

The Maharashtra Cyber Department has urged heightened vigilance nationwide, revealing in its detailed “Echoes of Pahalgam” report that these attacks appear to be coordinated by groups rather than individuals, suggesting a form of organized cyber warfare. Officials have identified the majority of attacks as originating from Pakistan, the Middle East, Morocco, and Indonesia, with the Pakistan-based group “Team Insane PK” being particularly active in targeting Indian military and educational portals.

In retaliation, the “Cyber Commander” group claims to have breached major Pakistani sites, including the official vehicle license portal, Federal Board of Revenue, Virtual University of Pakistan, and more than 35 educational and government email servers. Messages posted on these sites included direct warnings to Pakistani authorities and statements asserting India’s cyber capabilities and readiness to defend against further attacks.

The nature of the attacks on Pakistani sites included identity theft, data tampering, service disruptions, and threats to national security. Indian cybersecurity experts continue to monitor the situation, emphasizing that any further attacks on Indian institutions or citizens will be met with robust countermeasures.
