Over 100 Wheelchairs Arranged for Disabled and Senior Voters in Pune Cantonment Constituency

Camp, 11th November 2024: As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), various facilities will be provided to differently-abled voters at polling stations in the Pune Cantonment Constituency for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. The goal is to strengthen democracy by encouraging maximum participation from disabled voters in the voting process. This information was shared by Assistant Election Returning Officer Siddharth Bhandare.

According to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), there are a total of 5,100 disabled voters in the Shivajinagar Constituency. After thorough flagging and mapping of disabled voters, 395 differently-abled voters have been identified by polling center-level officials. Additionally, there are 10,311 voters above the age of 85, including 226 voters aged over 100 years.

To assist these voters, wheelchairs have been arranged for disabled voters and senior citizens aged 85 and above in the Pune Cantonment Constituency. Navnath Chikane, the nodal officer for the disabled room, and his team have secured nearly 110 wheelchairs from various hospitals and social institutions. Ramps, volunteers, interpreters, and magnifying glasses have also been arranged at polling stations to assist disabled and senior voters.

Assistant Election Returning Officer Siddharth Bhandare has appealed to disabled voters and senior citizens to participate in this celebration of democracy, cast their votes, and cooperate with the administration to strengthen the democratic process.
