Oxygen Demand Dropped By 66 Percent In Pune City Due To Sharp Drop In COVID Cases

Pune, January 11, 2021: There is one good news for Puneites. The demand for oxygen in Pune district has reduced by 70 percent in the district while 66 percent in the city. This reduction is 245 metric tonne in the district while 141 metric tonnes in the city. This drop is lowest ever in the last five months.
The oxygen demand saw a surge in September as the number of Covid-19 cases rose considerably. To meet the demand the oxygen-producing companies had increased their production capacity five-fold after the divisional commissioner had directed them to do so.
As the cases surged, the oxygen demand increased and it affected the supply. Suddenly, there was a shortage in the market. During the pandemic, 80 percent of the oxygen was used for medical purpose while 20 percent for industrial use.
Before the pandemic, only 30 percent was used for medical purpose while 70 percent for industrial use. But now, the cases are decreasing and thus there is less demand.
