Mumbai, 4th July 2022: In his first major populist move as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde has decided to reduce the prices of petrol and diesel.

Soon after passing the trust vote in the legislative assembly, CM Shinde said, “Maharashtra will reduce the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel, leading to a major reduction in prices in the state.”

This move of the new government will reduce the prices of petrol and diesel in Maharashtra. While most of the BJP-ruled states have cut petrol and diesel prices, the opposition-ruled states are not ready to do so.

Last year, in November, the central government cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10. After this, most of the BJP-ruled states also cut VAT. In May, again, the Centre announced a reduction in excise duty. During this, states like Uttar Pradesh further reduced VAT, which brought down the prices of petrol and diesel there.
