Pimpri Chinchwad: “Every Student, Every School Must Succeed”: PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh Emphasises Continuous Effort In Education Sector

Nigdi, 24th April 2025: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) Commissioner Shekhar Singh highlighted the importance of sustained commitment in the education sector, stating that a transformative shift is possible in the next ten years if all stakeholders work together. He was addressing the ‘School Management Committee Dialogue’ program organized by the PCMC Education Department at the GD Madgulkar Auditorium in Nigdi on Thursday (24th April).

The event witnessed participation from heads of PCMC-run primary and secondary schools, members of the School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Development Committees, Assistant Commissioner Vijaykumar Thorat, and Administrative Officer Sangeeta Bangar.

During his address, Commissioner Singh announced several initiatives for the academic year 2025–26. These include increasing the number of sports teachers to 64, launching a new ‘Bharat Bhraman’ initiative to encourage talented student-athletes, and introducing computer instructors in all schools. Singh also confirmed that language teachers for Hindi, Marathi, Urdu, and English would be appointed by the end of June and that school kits would be distributed to students from pre-primary to Class 10 by 15th July.

In a symbolic gesture, students presented handmade gifts to the Commissioner, who expressed his admiration and directed that such student-made creations be given to dignitaries visiting the civic body in the future. He also praised the operational models of the Indrayani Nagar and Punawale schools.

PCMC Assistant Commissioner Vijaykumar Thorat said that PCMC’s education grants have significantly improved school infrastructure and outcomes. Special grants have been distributed based on student strength, enabling schools to implement a variety of educational initiatives and helping PCMC schools become comparable to private institutions.

PCMC Administrative Officer Sangeeta Bangar, Senior Inspector Vanita Dhumal from the Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, and Chiku Piku Foundation’s co-editor Jui Chitale also addressed the session. They spoke respectively on PCMC’s educational progress, the school’s role in addressing child sexual abuse, and the importance of parental involvement in children’s education.
