Pimpri, September 8, 2020: IPS officer Krishna Prakash has taken charge as the Commissioner of Police in Pimpri Chinchwad on Saturday. Reducing the crime rate in Pimpri Chinchwad, which is known to have the political blessing, is going to be one of his biggest challenges. The Commissioner of Police has said that he won’t work under any political pressure, and he will decide his modus operandi after understanding the situation in the city.

Former Commissioner Sandeep Bishnoi was removed from the post of Commissioner of Police before the stipulated time. While the police force was said to be unhappy with him, disagreements with the city’s major political leaders might have led to his replacement. Krishna Prakash has now been given the charge of the city’s police commissioner, which has a mixed urban-rural structure.

The crime rate was rising in the city, therefore an independent police commissioner was appointed in Pimpri Chinchwad two years ago. But nothing has changed, and there have been nearly 200 murders in two years, about 400 incidents of rape and suicides. Apart from this, the number of crimes like theft, robbery, carrying weapons and pistols, ATM theft, destruction of vehicles has also increased. Hinjewadi, Talwade, Bhosari, Chakan, Talegaon are big industrial sectors, and the problems there are different. The Commissioner of Police will have to control all criminal activities in the industrial sector.

Insufficient manpower and vehicle: The Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has to address a challenging crime rate. But compared to it, the number of police personnel and vehicles is inadequate. It affects the performance of the police. In the last two years, two Commissioners of Police were appointed, but neither of them could solve the problems. The Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate came into existence on August 15, 2008.

“By studying all the issues in the city will try to bring the crime rate under control. Everyone will be the same before the law. Illegal trades will not be supported. Even the police will be punished for their mistakes. Political interference will not work. And we won’t work under pressure from anyone,” the new Police Commissioner said.
