Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate to be started soon

Pune – The state government on Monday issued a government resolution (GR) regarding establishment of Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate. Additional Director General of Police rank officer (same rank as Pune police commissioner) will head the police unit. The government has allocated Rs 393 crores for the new establishment.

The new commissionerate will be carved out of Pune city police and Pune rural (district) police areas. It will have 15 police stations and cover a population of about 23 lakhs people including 17 lakhs under the PCMC (as per 2011 census).

The commissionerate will comprise of Sangvi, Hinjawadi, Wakad, Pimpri, Nigdi, Chinchwad, Bhosari, MIDC (Bhosari), Dighi and Chikhli police stations from Pune city police, and Chakan, Alandi, Dehuroad, Talegaon-Dabhade, and Talegaon-MIDC police stations of the Pune rural police. There will be a total of 4840 officers and personnel including clerical staffs. Of this 2207 will be transferred from Pune city and Pune rural police units, while 2633 new posts will be created.

Out of Rs 393 crores, a total of Rs 179.69 crores will be used for creation of 2633 new posts, while Rs 24.04 crores will be for offices expenses, while Rs 188.83 crores will be spent on building quarters for police personnel.

The office of the police commissioner will be the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule School run by PCMC in Chinchwad. The school will be shifted in another building.
