Chinchwad, 6th November 2023: Following protests by Dehu residents against allocating the Government Reserve Land in Dehu to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, the police have initiated the examination of an alternative location. Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey inspected the Moshi Reserve Land area, specifically for the Commissionerate’s Headquarters and Parade Ground, on Saturday (4th).

Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Shinde, Additional Commissioner Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Doifode, Deputy Director of the Town Planning Department Prasad Gaikwad, Tehsildar Archana Nikam, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivaji Pawar were present during this inspection.

Despite the establishment of an independent police commissionerate for the city five years ago, a suitable location for the commissionerate has yet to be determined. While approval was granted to allocate 50 acres of land in Dehu Gaon’s Government Reserve Land to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissionerate, local citizens and farmers have expressed opposition to this site, leading to protests by villagers. In light of this opposition, the police have explored the Gayran site in Moshi as a potential alternative.

Satish Mane, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Public Relations Officer, mentioned, “The commissionerate needs space, and accordingly, the site is being inspected. The Moshi site has been inspected by senior officials. A follow-up will be done after the location is decided.”

Is Using Proposed Land in Punawale for the SWM Project an Option?

Protests have been ongoing regarding the proposed location for a solid waste management (SWM) garbage depot in the Punawale area. Many Punawale residents are in opposition to the SWM garbage depot project in their locality. Furthermore, not only Punawale residents but also those from Wakad, Hinjawadi, Ravet, and other areas are expressing their disapproval. The residents argue that it would be highly preferable if the proposed SWM project were not to proceed in this location. Instead, they would welcome the construction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Commissioner’s office on this land. The Commissioner’s office of Pimpri-Chinchwad Police is actively seeking a suitable location, and the land in Punawale could potentially address their needs.
