Pimpri, October 5, 2020: Pimpri-Chinchwad stamp paper vendors are overcharging citizens for stamps, alleged city’s Notary Association president, Adv PD Nangre. The stamp sellers have been charging people more than the designated price on stamps like Rs 100 stamps is sold for Rs 120 to Rs 140 and Rs 500 stamps at Rs 530.

The association president stated that even though despite knowing stamp vendors are cheating, citizens are quiet because they need to get their works done. Those people who do not pay extra sellers ignore them, he complained.  The association has demanded the District Registrar’s Office to pay attention to the issue.

Pimpri-Chinchwad has about 25 to 30 stamp paper vendors; categorised as stamp sellers and stamp writers. People use stamps for various reasons like to buy and sell land, mortgages, bank loans, adoptions, wills, letters of intent, deeds as well as affidavits for various government schemes.

“The vendors get a commission of Rs 10/20 for each stamp, yet they are overcharging people. This is a serious matter, however, was conveniently ignored by the District Registrar’s Office,” said the Pimpri-Chinchwad Notary Association’s vice-president Adv Deepak Oval.

“According to the government’s new rules, it is illegal to sell stamps on holidays and after office hours. Even then, the vendors are selling stamps illegally at extra prices after the office time and on off days,” said Nangre.
