Plan To Extend Military Training, NCC To One Lakh Youth In 173 Border And Coastal Districts

New Delhi, January 28, 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the National Cadet Corps (NCC) rally at Delhi’s Cariappa Ground on Wednesday once again called on the youth of the country to join it. Earlier on 15 August 2020, they had announced its expansion. The Ministry of Defence plans to expand the NCC.

One lakh cadets will be included: Under this scheme, a total of one lakh cadets from 173 coastal and border districts will be included in NCC. One-third of the cadets will be girls. More than 1000 schools and colleges have been identified in the border and coastal districts where NCC will be introduced. They will be trained. The army will train NCC units located in the border areas.

The Navy will provide assistance to NCC units in coastal areas and similarly to NCC units located close to Air Force stations. They will also be motivated to join the armed forces after training. The NCC expansion plan will be implemented in partnership with the states.

Units to be upgraded: Under NCC’s expansion plan, 83 units of NCC will be upgraded. Of these, 53 units will be in the Army, 20 units in the Navy, and 10 units in the Airforce. These units will train new cadets in the border and beach districts. The army will train new cadets in the districts which are adjacent to the border. The Navy will have the responsibility to train in those districts which are adjacent to the coastline, while the Air Force will train in the districts around which the airport stations are located. The NCC cadets will get bonus points in the recruitment receiving a big benefit in the CAPF exam. State Governments have been urged to give preference to NCC in Police Force.

To increase the participation of India’s youth in the National Cadet Corps, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Amit Shah has taken a unique decision to award bonus points to NCC certificate holders. Now NCC cadets will be given separate marks in the Central Armed Police Forces, Armed Force’s examinations.

Apart from this, the state governments have also been requested to give incentive points to NCC certificate holders in the armed police forces. The benefit for NCC in Central Armed Police Force – The NCC certificate holders will be given the benefit of maximum marks of the exam up to 5 bonus points. It is also being discussed that they get preference in direct recruitment for the posts of Sub-Inspector and Constable (GD).

Triangular Organization: NCC is a tri-service organization consisting of the Army, Navy and Air Wings.

Formation: NCC was formed in the year 1948.

Motto: Unity and discipline by which it prepares the youth as disciplined and patriotic citizens.

Goal: A very strong platform to strengthen the spirit of discipline, determination, and devotion towards the nation. This is how the certificate is awarded to the cadet on passing the first level in NCC. Those who get the first level certificate are given the second level certificate. The NCC cadet is awarded the highest certificate after hard training and passing the exam.

14 lakh currently in NCC: It has a strength of about 14 lakh cadets from the wings of Army, Navy, and Air Force. It enrolls cadets at the high school and college level and also provides certificates on completion of various stages.

More than 60 thousand NCC cadets participated in relief work: NCC cadets have played an important role in relief efforts during various emergency situations over the years. During the ongoing epidemic, more than 60,000 NCC cadets have been deployed for voluntary relief work in coordination with district and state officials across the country.

NCC restructuring plan: It was given by the Committee of Experts (COE) headed by Lieutenant General DB Shekatkar (Retd.). It was formed back in mid-2016 by the then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

In coastal areas, where the youth are already familiar with the sea. The training will increase interest in careers in the Navy, Coast Guard, and merchant shipping avenues. In the border area, trained cadets play an important role in various competitions and also in armed supporting roles in various roles
