Gokhalenagar, 10th January 2026: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said it will focus on improving basic civic amenities for residents of Gokhalenagar and Wakdewadi, areas that continue to face long-pending infrastructure and service-related issues.

Addressing voters during the ongoing campaign, AAP candidate Sheetal Jaunjal said several housing colonies in Gokhalenagar and Wakdewadi lack essential facilities such as proper drainage lines, water supply networks, and internal roads. She pointed out that the area reflects stark contrasts, with high-rise buildings on one side and slum settlements on the other, highlighting the need for balanced and inclusive development.

Jaunjal also drew attention to stalled infrastructure projects, including the delayed opening of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital, pending works at the Shivajinagar bus terminus, and the long-delayed university flyover. She said the poor condition of government schools and severe traffic congestion continue to affect daily life in the area. “We are committed to finding concrete solutions to these problems,” she told residents during campaign interactions.

AAP has fielded candidates Shankar Thorat, Shailendra Memane, and Sheetal Jaunjal from Ward No. 7, which includes Gokhalenagar and Wakdewadi in the Shivajinagar area. Party representatives said the candidates have already undertaken initiatives in several localities, including Patil Estate, Natavadi, Mula Road, Indira Vasahat, Khairwadi, and Janwadi, focusing on issues such as street lighting, drainage lines, and access to coaching support for children.

The ward, traditionally considered a Congress stronghold, has witnessed political shifts in recent times, with former candidates switching parties. AAP leaders claim this has created space for new political alternatives and resulted in a positive response for the party’s candidates.

According to AAP office-bearer Mukund Kirdat, the first round of door-to-door outreach in the area has been completed. He said dissatisfaction over limited development work by former BJP corporators in Bhosalenagar, coupled with defections by Congress candidates, has led to growing support for AAP. “We believe traditional Congress voters and educated sections will support the Aam Aadmi Party in this election,” Kirdat said.
